Here at Journey Therapy Center, we understand that communication is a bridge to connection, independence, and self-expression, and our speech therapy programs are tailored to help our kiddos be heard, understood, and empowered for life.
Our Speech Language Pathologists specialize in a lot more than simply helping children “say their sounds.” They are trained communication specialists who support how a person understands, expresses, and connects with others.
They start out by evaluating communication skills such as speech clarity, understanding and using language, voice quality and fluency, and feeding/swallowing skills, when relevant. They use formal assessments, observation, play-based interaction, and caregiver input to understand the whole child.
After that, work begins to make improvements where needed by teaching correct mouth placement and practicing sounds, then moving on to build language skills, which is essential for education and social communication. This is where a custom plan comes into play for each child and his or her individual needs.
In simple terms, speech-language pathologists help children find ways to be understood and understand others. Communication is at the heart of human connection, and strong communication skills are about more than just talking. They involve listening, understanding, and expressing emotions.
For children with autism, challenges in these areas can affect social interactions, learning, and self-expression. When a child struggles to communicate, they may feel isolated, frustrated, or misunderstood. We are dedicated to helping them find and use their voice!
