Occupational Therapy (OT) can make a world of difference!

We want to welcome our new therapists, Lydia Fischer and Becky Volz. They joined our Occupational Therapy (OT) team this month, and we should no longer have a waitlist for OT services.

Occupational Therapy is one of the most impactful supports available for children on the autism spectrum. Despite the name, OT isn’t about “jobs” — it’s about helping children develop the skills they need to participate fully in daily life. From brushing teeth and getting dressed to writing, playing, and socializing, OT builds independence, confidence, and comfort in a child’s world.

At Journey Therapy Center, our occupational therapists assess each child’s unique sensory, motor, and daily living needs. Sessions may include:

  • Fine motor activities: improving hand strength and coordination for writing, buttoning, or using utensils.
  • Sensory integration therapy: helping children process and respond to sensory input like sound, touch, or movement.
  • Self-care training: building independence with dressing, hygiene, and feeding skills.
  • Play-based interventions: encouraging social and imaginative play that supports learning and emotional regulation.

Occupational therapy can make a world of difference for children who struggle with sensory sensitivities or sensory-seeking behaviors, poor coordination or difficulty with balance and posture, trouble focusing or staying regulated, challenges with transitions and routines, and delays in self-care or independence skills.

Progress in OT is gradual but powerful. Parents often notice improvements in their child’s ability to stay calm, follow routines, and try new things. With consistency and teamwork between therapist and family, children gain skills that ripple into every part of life — at home, school, and beyond.

At Journey Therapy Center, our occupational therapists partner closely with parents to design an individualized plan and offer guidance for reinforcing strategies at home, ensuring children continue to thrive between sessions.

If you are interested in OT for your child, please let us know! Welcome to the team, Lydia and Becky!
